And this is exactly what Coop Himmelb(l)au, the architecture bureau based in Vienna, wanted to achieve with the new customer-information and event venue from the producer of baking products 'backaldrin The Kornspitz Company'.
As already experienced in the cooperation between D+H and Coop Himmelb(l)au for the Musée des Confluences in Lyon, France, the requirements for the smoke and heat exhaust ventilation system were high. Hidden drive solutions, a unified controller for all smoke compartments and the separate programming of each individual drive were all a part of the customer requirements.
D+H’s Austrian sales partner, Willenig Brandschutztechnik GmbH, developed a special solution for the exhibition area in the upper floor, the so-called 'Wonder Chamber of Bread'. A circular atrium which includes an opaque ceiling and a roof structure is at the centre of the Wonder Chamber. The space between these two sections was so tight that there was not enough space for the planned rack and pinion drives. A specially produced traverse solution had to be designed. Willenig worked closely with a metalworking company for this. The space problem was resolved through this solution and safe smoke extraction was installed. Loaf and soul are protected in the event of a fire and, thanks to the integrated ventilation function, always have fresh air into the bargain. An ideal atmosphere for every visitor.
