MACO, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of fittings for windows, doors, and large-scale systems, has published an expanded Future Report 2024/25 and received the prestigious “Energy Globe Styria Award 2025” in the field of energy, environment, and climate.
Attitude, Transparency, and Commitment
“Creating tomorrow. Joining forces” – under this motto, MACO visibly, measurably, and clearly demonstrates how this family-owned company takes responsibility and makes its operations increasingly sustainable every day. Of course, this is not an end in itself, but a fact that sustainability is increasingly becoming a key factor in winning new partners, customers, and employees. The company has been thinking and acting sustainably since its founding in 1947 – successfully, as confirmed by the latest award.
Energy Globe Award for the Trieben Plant
In the “Industry and Business” category, the production plant in Trieben received a prestigious award in early June 2025 for energy, environment, and climate. Thanks to the “Phasing Out Gas” project, the plant succeeded in reducing gas consumption by 40 percent. This was made possible through intelligent use of a high-temperature heat pump and additional cold storage. Besides reducing gas consumption, the amount of water withdrawn from the source was also significantly decreased. An important success – not only for MACO.
Markus Hillinger, Chief Health Safety Environment & Quality Officer, emphasizes: After receiving four Klima:aktiv awards and several nominations for the Energy Globe in recent years, winning the Energy Globe Styria Award 2025 marks another milestone on MACO’s path to sustainably reducing its carbon footprint. We will definitely continue to pursue this path.
Clear Commitment to Sustainability
This success proves that MACO is on the right track and explains why the company increasingly joins forces.
Our commitment to sustainability makes us a consistent, reliable partner as well as a driver of innovation and quality. In particular, we are expanding our broad portfolio with recyclable products and service solutions that enable energy-efficient construction, explains Mario Neuwirth, CEO of the MACO Group.
To achieve this, the fittings expert sets new standards in material selection, product design, packaging, and production.
Eco-design and Material Efficiency
For decades, MACO products have contributed to increasing the energy efficiency of buildings. The MACO Circularity Index provides software-based support in determining the most environmentally friendly combination of raw materials for each product. Optimized topological design and minimal raw material consumption not only save CO₂ but also increase production efficiency. MACO also focuses on recycling processes, modern wastewater treatment, and targeted use of materials with a high content of secondary raw materials.
Green Energy from Our Own Production
A key element of the sustainability strategy is the supply of renewable energy to all locations. Electricity comes from hydroelectric and wind power plants, increasingly supplemented by the company’s own photovoltaic systems at several sites in Italy, Austria, and Poland.
In 2024, the amount of self-generated electricity already exceeded 1 million kWh. In addition, heat from waste is used for heating.
More information about MACO’s commitment to sustainability can be found in the current Future Report 2024/25
