Closing the aluminium cycle to keep the recyclable material in the construction industry – with this goal in mind, Schüco International KG and the TSR Group GmbH & Co. KG have established a collaboration. Together, both partners want to actively counter the growing lack of resources to create a sustainable construction industry.
The TSR Group is one of Europe’s leading specialists for the processing of scrap metal, such as aluminium, into high-quality recycled raw materials for the industry. At Schüco too, the recycling of aluminium makes a significant contribution towards achieving the company’s sustainability goals. Once it is extracted, aluminium can be recycled an infinite number of times. The benefit is that processing scrap aluminium into high-quality recycled products saves up to 95 percent of energy compared to producing primary aluminium.
At the same time, it reduces carbon emissions by up to 85 percent. Using recycled raw materials in the manufacturing of new products, such as window profiles, strengthens the independence from global supply chains and secures a more reliable supply of raw materials. This makes it all the more important to return materials from “end-of-life” building elements in existing buildings and profile sections from production efficiently and sustainably back into the material cycle.
Within this partnership, concepts will be developed concerning how old windows from renovation projects and profile sections from production can be taken back by the TSR Group via the Germany-wide network of sites and processed into high-quality recycled raw materials. For a closed material cycle, these raw materials are then made available to the Schüco network for the production of sustainable profiles.
Andreas Engelhardt, Managing Partner and CEO of Schüco, is delighted with the collaboration: Our aim is to provide support through the entire life cycle of the building envelope. The recycling and associated return of used materials is an important part of our strategy. We want to close the aluminium material cycle and take a further, strategic step towards future-oriented, circular construction. With the TSR Group, we have an experienced and successful partner by our side.
Bernd Fleschenberg, Managing Director of the TSR Group GmbH & Co. KG, adds: With our collaboration, we aim to ensure a long-term supply of eco-friendly and climate-friendly aluminium – while consistently maintaining high quality. With our partnership, together we can spearhead the transition to a true circular economy in the construction industry and beyond. We are proud to be making such a crucial contribution to this with our recycled products.
Since 2022, REMONDIS, which is a shareholder of the TSR Group, and Schüco have been joined in a strategic partnership to promote the recycling of PVC-U. RE:CORE GmbH is a specialist in the recycling of profile sections from window construction, as well as old window materials. While the focus of recycling until now has been primarily on the processing of PVC, the collaboration between Schüco and TSR will now also focus on aluminium.
