Mechanisms for roller-shutters
More information about TONTOR
Roller-shutter systems offer a wide selection of opening mechanisms - from manual operation to electric. The main roller-shutter opening mechanism is a surface mounted tape or cord retractor, variations are for a concealed tape retractor or for heavier armour there is a tape or cord crank retractor. All retractors are available in two colours: brown and white.
In particular cases operating roller-shutters with very heavy armour manually is not enough so a convenient solution might be to use a crank rod with its universal joint and worm-gear. This mechanism in different varieties is very popular in France, Switzerland and Germany. Tontor only buys this mechanism from the well-known German manufacturer Geiger GmbH. Tried and tested it has proven to be the best quality solution. Made from materials such as aluminium, Teflon and stainless steel it provides the highest level of comfort when operated. They are available in white or brown.
The final word in and by far the most comfortable way of operating roller-shutters is an electric opening mechanism. In recent years, rapid development in this field has resulted in increased sales of roller-shutters fitted with an electric drive. Tontor prioritises regarding safety, quality and customer satisfaction ensure we only fit our roller-shutters with electric drives from reputable suppliers who are well-known globally, such as Somfy, Simu, Selve and Mobilus. Electric drives can be divided into:
- Basic model with mechanical adjustment of the armour end position
- Overloadprotection model with sensor mechanism, which can detect obstacles such as ice on the armour surface
- Radio model with receiver that is controlled remotely by radio waves
- Can come with an emergency manual opening option in case of power failure.
There are many possible varieties and hybrids which can be created, so we can always choose the right electric drive to match your expectations. For the electric drive to work and move the roller-shutter armour up and down, it must be connected to either a hard wired or radio receiver, drive controller. The simplest way of wired control is to connect a switch with basic functions like up and down operation into the opening mechanism (individual control). A more advanced option allows for all wired individual controls to be routed and connected in one place, creating a central control panel. The top end solution, due to the rapid development of radio-controlled drives, means most centralised control panels are designed and operated using radio controlled systems. Radio control is a simple and easy to use system in which after fitting the roller-shutters with drives and connecting them to the receivers we can decide which area and which roller-shutter will be handled by each transmitter. The control of the roller-shutters can be done via a wall-mounted transmitter, a transmitter in form of a remote control (which can be single or multi-channelled), or by using a main control panel, which can for example be programmed to open or shut at a desired time.
